Adams Morgan

Location: Northwest, DC centered around 18th St. and Columbia Rd.

Nearest metro: Woodley Park -Zoo (Red line), Dupont Circle (Red Line)

Character:  Adams Morgan is known for its cultural diversity and has many restaurants and bars, making it a popular nightlife destination.  Surrounding residential homes are 19th-20th century row houses, historic and modern condominiums.

The Grill from Ipanema – A taste of Brazil in the city!

Amsterdam Falafelshop  Great flavorful food.  Don’t forget to order some Falafel, a ball or patty made from ground chickpeas

Capitol Hill/Eastern Market

Location: From the Capitol stretching eastward approximately 2 square miles.

Nearest metro: Eastern Market (Blue and Orange lines), Capitol South (Blue and Orange lines), Potomac Ave. (Blue and Orange lines)


Character: Capitol Hill is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in DC, and has quite a few neighborhood attractions, including the United States Capitol building, the Library of Congress, Eastern Market — a local farmers’ and flea market surrounded by restaurants, Barracks Row, and the Navy Yard.  The residential neighborhoods feature mostly historic rowhouses and manor homes from the 19th century.

Not to miss: 

Barrel  Try the BBQ, slaw, or the hot sticky buns

Tortilla Café  Near the flea market for those post shopping munchies.  Try the corn tamale.

Eastern Market   Check out the complete selection of fresh fruits, meats, fish, and veggies on Saturdays and Sundays.  You won’t regret it

Cleveland Park/Tenleytown/Friendship Heights

Location: Northwest, DC, bordering Chevy Chase, Maryland, roughly bounded by River Road, Wisconsin and Connecticut Avenues, through Woodley Park/Zoo

Nearest metro: Friendship Heights (Red line), Tenleytown/AU (Red line), Cleveland Park (Red line), Woodley Park-Zoo (Red line), Van Ness (Red line)


Highly residential with pockets of high-end retail shopping (Friendship Heights), restaurants, and commercial offices.  American University is situated in Tenleytown, and Rock Creek Park is close by with playgrounds, ballfields, a golf course, an amphitheater, trails for biking, hiking, riding horses, and more.  The residential areas have many historic detached homes, condominiums, and rowhouses.

Eats near the Zoo

Open City  when you have finished looking at the panda bears try the chai waffles

District Kitchen  make a meal of small plates.  Don’t forget to try the warm apple buckle with a glass of wine
